Give your garden an extra creative flair with Garden Totem! These outdoor totem poles are the perfect answer to a changeable garden sculpture!
About this Event
This class is an ideal class for beginners to create their own large stackable garden sculpture. Suitable for ages 16+
The classes will run over three weeks on the 14th June, 21th and 28th June
WEEK 1 | Saturday 14th June 9 - 1pm: Hand building pieces out of clay slabs. using BRT clay. You will make 3 box shapes that you will be able to carve the surface, press textures and embellish. This week you will also handbuild 5 spacers to go in between some of the peices. All the spaces will be bisque fires for you to dip in coloured glazes. You will also select 1 box to be bisque fired for you to glaze in coloured glazes in the final week.
WEEK 2 | Saturday 21st June| 9 - 1pm: You will be provided with 3 wheel thown form and a wheel thrown topper for your totem pole. You will embellishing and carving the three thrown pieces. You will be sculpting your topper for the totem, you can have full access to all the moulds and cuters to create your totem topper. You will also select one of your wheel thrown peices to bisqued for you to glaze with coloured glazes.
WEEK 3 | Saturday 28th June| 9 - 1pm: Decorating your pieces, ready for firing. you will be painting with underglaze colours and glazing the peices that were bisque fired with our selection of coloured glazes.
Your totem pole will be a mix of painted and glazed peices.
After the third week, your piece will be fired by our talented team at Monte Lupo studio, ready for you to take home.

- All workshops are to be pre-booked and paid in advance through our Monte Lupo Online Shop.
- These workshops follow a rigorous teaching schedule and each class must be attended.
- Missing a week is not recommended - however, we understand things don’t always go to plan. You will be offered a make up class in line with another workshop.
- Students are not welcome in the studio unsupervised or during business hours (unless agreed upon by the studio manager).
- If Monte Lupo needs to postpone or cancel a workshop, the student will be notified of the change and makeup classes be offered at a time convenient for the majority of the students or during other workshop sessions. Cancellation of a workshop will only occur if there is venue/ equipment, staffing or material issues.
- If the student wishes to cancel attendance at a workshop they must give a minimum of 2 weeks’ notice prior to the commencement of the workshop to receive a full refund. Any cancellations less than 2 weeks’ notice will not be refunded.
- Your piece will be handled and fired by our staff with the utmost care. However, if breakages or kiln related mishaps occur, they will be repaired by our skilled staff. If it cannot be repaired, you will be offered an opportunity to make a new piece during studio time at no additional cost.
- Metal Pole is not included in the workshop price, it is recommended to purchase a star picket. Or we can organize a welder to make one for you at an extra cost.
